The reintroduction of a family of lions from South Africa has been a remarkable success, with the successful breeding of lions, and we are equally thrilled to announce that we have reintroduced 18 eastern black rhinos into the park!
Akagera National Park is a must-visit for wildlife enthusiasts. You will get to encounter a plethora of wildlife including buffalo, elephant, antelope, zebra, giraffe, baboons, monkeys, and a whopping 490 bird species to marvel at. Additionally, taking a relaxing boat trip on Lake Ihema is a highlight of any visit to the park. With the lake boasting large pods of hippos, Nile crocodiles and abundant waterbirds, you are sure to be enchanted by the magnificent views of the island in the middle of the lake.
To have a full experience of the park, we recommend that you explore it through a guided vehicle tour. However, if you are feeling adventurous and confident enough, you can opt for a self-drive tour. Alternatively, the National park provides a vehicle for hire, with individual spaces available on night drives.
